Marilyn Schroder Obituary

A memorial service to celebrate the life of Marilyn Lefler Schroder, 85, of Camden, SC, will be held at 10:00 AM, Tuesday, April 23, 2024, at Lyttleton Street United Methodist Church.  The Reverend Gary Rivas will officiate.  Following the service, the family will receive friends at the church in the Family Life Center until noon.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the South Carolina United Turtle Enthusiasts, mailed to  Dr. Brian Shamblin, Warnell School of Forestry and NR, University of Georgia, 180 East Green Street, Athens, GA 30602, or to the charity of one’s choice.

Marilyn died on Saturday, April 20, 2024.  She was the widow of H. Beckman “Beck” Schroder.  Marilyn was born in Red Bank, NJ, and was the daughter of the late Fred Lefler and Minerva Johnson Lefler.

Marilyn attended the College of Charleston where she met Citadel Cadet Beck Schroder, whom she married in 1957 and had a wonderful life together for over 60 years.  She later graduated from Coker College.  She enjoyed tennis, playing bridge, ACC basketball, and the Atlanta Braves.  The true loves of her life were her husband, being the best “Grandy” to her nine grandchildren, and attending any activities in which her grandchildren participated.

Marilyn is survived by her daughters, Dawn Hill (Tommy) of Columbia, Tracy Carlton (Johnny) of Columbia, and Lori Arledge (Dennis) of Camden; nine grandchildren, John Beckman Arledge (Stephanie), Jacob Henry Arledge (Tarin Dawson), Dennis Gordon Arledge, Jr., Matthew Thomas Hill (Kelly), Andrew Houston Hill (Morgan), William Austin Hill, Georgia Carlton Altus (Jared), Beckman Louise Carlton and John Schroder Carlton; great-grandchildren, Sadie Hill, Hayes Hill, Woods Altus, and Beckman Altus; sister and brother-in-law, Nancy and Ken Perrine; nephew, Danny Perrine; and niece, Sally League. 

Marilyn was predeceased by her husband, her parents, and her infant granddaughter, Lindsay Hill.
